Huge congratulations to Cassi Sauer, MSc Human Nutrition student in the Karakochuk lab, for winning a CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship – Masters Award. This award provides $17,500 of salary support to successful students on the basis of their academic excellence, research potential and personal characteristics. For her MSc thesis research, Cassi is spearheading a cluster-randomized trial to assess the adherence and acceptability of multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) vs. iron and folic acid (IFA) supplements in ~1,500 pregnant women in Cambodia. This trial is supporting the Ministry of Health in Cambodia to transition from the use of IFA to MMS in pregnant women and is influencing new policy in maternal and child nutrition in Cambodia. We are thrilled for you, Cassi!
