Congratulations, Dr. Leepile!

We are so excited and proud of Tebby, who successfully defended her PhD in January (yay, Dr. Leepile!!).

Through her dissertation research, titled ‘Household Food Insecurity and the Nutritional Status of Women and Young Children in Rural Botswana,’  Tebby hopes that her findings have provided crucial insights to inform targeted, responsive, and culturally appropriate health and nutrition policies for the San People. She also hopes that this work has created a platform for San communities to share their perspectives and centre their voices on issues that concern them.

Since defending in January, Tebby has been awarded the IMMANA postdoctoral fellowship (a program led by Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University) to build up on her doctoral work. Her current project aims to examine the historical origins and cultural underpinnings of intermittent fasting among the Indigenous people in Africa, a practice that recently garnered interest for its potential to mitigate obesity and diet-related non-communicable diseases.

Huge congratulations on all of your hard work, Tebby!
